Learn how to install gabion baskets correctly. Our professional guide covers foundation prep, assembly, filling, and lacing for a strong and durable structure.
H1: How to Install Gabion Baskets: A 4-Step Professional Guide
Proper installation is key to the stability and longevity of your gabion structure. Follow these four essential steps.
Step 1: Foundation Preparation
Level and compact the ground. On soft subsoil, a layer of compacted gravel may be necessary.
Step 2: Assembly & Placement
Unfold the gabion baskets on a flat surface. Use bracing wires if provided. Lace the sides and ends together securely with the supplied lacing wire or rings.
Step 3: Filling with Stone
Fill the baskets with hard, durable quarry stone.
For best results, fill in 1/3 lifts. You can temporarily use tie wires to connect opposing faces to minimize bulging during filling.
Step 4: Lid Closure
Once filled to the top, place the lid and securely lace it to all sides, ends, and diaphragms.
Pro Tips & Common Mistakes to Avoid
Tip: Always wear heavy-duty gloves when handling gabions.
Mistake: Using undersized or soft fill stone that can wash out or degrade.
Mistake: Insufficient lacing, which can lead to structural failure under pressure.
